Dr. Michael TSE
Assistant Director of Centre for Sports and Exercise
Michael is the Director or the Active Health Clinic and the Assistant Director at the Centre for Sports and Exercise. His role is to develop special projects within the Institute and overseeing the Active Health Clinic. Michael has over 20 years of experience in the health & fitness industries, having worked in numerous countries such as Germany, Japan, Hong Kong and the USA.
Having worked as the Head of Strength and Conditioning Department in Hong Kong Sports Institute for over 14 years, Michael was involved in training and assisting all of HK's top athletes at that time, including athletes from the sports of swimming, cycling, track & field, triathlon, windsurfing, rowing, soccer, and numerous racket sports. Michael is a leading expert in the field of strength and conditioning in Asia and is frequently invited as a speaker at various conferences and symposia both in the Asian region and overseas.
Besides extensive coaching background, Michael himself is also an accomplished athlete in Hong Kong. While he was competing for the Hong Kong National Rowing team from 1993 to 1999, he was the number one ranked single-sculler in Hong Kong. Some highlights of his rowing career include qualification for the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996, and two-time silver medalist at the Asian Rowing Championships in 1995 & 1997. He was also a finalist in the 1994 and 1998 Asian Games, and won other numerous accolades at Hong Kong Rowing Championships. He also competed at collegiate level American Football, played Lacrosse and has a black belt in Karate.
Michael is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer, and is ACSM Exercise Physiologist certified.
Mr. Glen JOE
Glen is the Exercise Physiologist at the Active Health Clinic. Part of his role is to develop and run services provided by the AHC including health and wellness, sports performance and physical fitness.
Glen holds a Masters degree in Sport and Exercise Science with Honours from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. In his time there he also provided sports science services in biomechanics, exercise physiology, strength and conditioning and anthropometry with New Zealand's National teams including such sports as softball, basketball, golf, rugby league, soccer, and Paralympics. He also has experience working with rehabilitation and corporate health and fitness providing such services as sport and work injury rehabilitation, pre-employment health screening and workstation assessment.
Having been involved in his chosen sport of basketball for more than 20 years, Glen has played professionally in New Zealand and China and currently in Hong Kong.
Ms. Chi-wah LAU
Chi Wah is the Administration Manager of the Active Health Clinic. She holds a Masters Degree in Exercise Science (Strength & Conditioning) from the Edith Cowan University, Australia and is also a qualified Physical Education teacher.
Chi Wah is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, ACSM Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer and NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer. Her over 15-year career has spanned various arms of the Hong Kong sporting sector, working in sports administration at the Hong Kong Sports Institute and the Gymnastics Association of Hong Kong, China, and as an assistant manager in a commercial sports marketing and equipment company, focusing on both sales and event management.
With the background of being a national elite gymnast in her young age, she is also a certified international gymnastics judge, coaching and working in gymnastics as a local expert since 1996.
Mr. Alan WONG
Health and Fitness Manager
Alan holds an MSc degree in Strength and Conditioning with Distinction from the University of Salford. During his time in the UK, he worked closely with leading S&C professionals and provided support and research service to a variety of elite athletes. Alan also holds a BEd (Hons) in Physical Education, and is also an NASM international certified personal trainer and NASM international certified performance enhancement specialist and other special population.
Mr. Kenneth LIANG
Health and Fitness Officer
Kenneth holds the MSc degree in Sports Medicine and Health Science from Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is a Certified ACSM Clinical Exercise Specialist and NSCA Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He is an experienced running coach and tennis coach who was also the Coaching Director of the Hong Kong Amateur Athletics Association from 1989-94.
Mr. Kevin TANG
Fitness Programme Officer
Kevin is an ACSM-Certified Health & Fitness Specialist and NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He joined the Centre for Sports and Exercise in 2007 after graduating from the BSc in Sports Science and Leisure management (SSLM) at the University of Hong Kong. He is also responsible for organizing activity programmes (with particular focus on youth) as well as coaching fitness programmes at the Active Health Clinic.
Ms. Dora LAU
Exercise and Wellness Trainer
Dora is the Exercise and Wellness Trainer at the Active Health Clinic. She holds a Master degree in Strength and Conditioning from the Edith Cowan University, Western Australia and a Bachelor Degree in Exercise and Health Science at HKU. She is currently a member of the Hong Kong Women’s Baseball National Team and was a former representative in Softball. She is responsible for the development and coordination of service program with special population.
Mr. Xavier Chiu
Exercise and Wellness Trainer
Xavier is the Fitness Centre Coordinator at Flora Ho Sport Centre. He holds a Bachelor Degree of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science) at RMIT University, Australia. During his time in Australia, he worked in several fitness centers with different strength and condition coaches assisting them and gaining experience in professional bodyweight training and endurance training. Xavier was a former national triathlon squad member and he had represented Hong Kong to race oversea. He also is an accredited Exercise Scientist in Australia and certified swimming coach in Hong Kong.
Ms. Josephine CHAN
Josephine joined the Institute of Human Performance in 2013 as the Executive Assistant. She holds the BA of Hotel Management from the University of Canberra. With administration experience, Josephine is responsible for Active Kids Sports Programmes and assist in the clinic administration.
Ms. Susan FAN
Susan joined the Institute of Human Performance in 2016 as the Executive Assistant. She holds the Higher Diploma of Library & Information Management from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. With administration experience, Susan is responsible for Active Kids Sports Programmes and assist in the clinic administration.
Mr. Yenkit MAN
Acitve Campus Programme Coordinator
Yenkit joined the Centre for Sports and Exercise in 2014. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports, Health and Management with Honours from the Hanze University in the Netherlands. He also holds a Dutch Fitness Trainer “A” Certificate and is a NSCA-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. As a Black Belt holder, he is an experienced martial arts practitioner and has been a trainer in various martial arts disciplines for many years. Yenkit is responsible for the development and coordination of on-campus fitness and health programs as well as overseeing usage of the CSE Active Gym at the Centennial Campus and providing quality training advice to students and staff.
Ms. Annabelle FONG
Annabelle is the Fitness Trainer at the Centre for Sports and Exercise. She holds a BSc degree in Exercise Science at Concordia University and is also a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. After graduation, she worked closely with different physiotherapists assisting in both clinical and on-field settings, gaining experience in injury prevention and post injury patients. Her responsibility at the CSE Active gym is the fitness guidance of students and staff, as well as assisting in management of the daily operations of CSE Active Gym at the Centennial Campus.
